Case study #1 |
The challenge
A medical laboratory had been using DataFort Select for four years. The requirement had started out as quite manageable, but as the lab became more prominent in its field the amount of data stored offsite increased dramatically. |
| The requirement went from 30Gb in year one, to 100 Gb in year two; by the fourth year DataFort had backup files in excess of 200Gb which, given the nature of the data and how well it compresses, meant that their primary server had to store between 800Gb and a terabyte of data. |
The solution
A disk drive failure, and a painful wait for data to be delivered via USB disk from the data centre, prompted the company to revisit a DataFort proposal that offered them backup to a local appliance and a data centre for no increased cost, other than a deposit for the appliance. |
The outcome
The laboratory now has data backed up in both places and has successfully used the appliance backup to recover data on three separate occasions. |

The challenge
A building services company specialising in concrete for office blocks, with six offices and one very competent IT person running from office to office! Key point of risk: if the IT person is lost, the company is in serious trouble. |
The solution
The company has three large exchange servers (2 x 100Gb; 1 x 350 Gb) and mail box level recovery together with full system recovery. This means we can bring back anything from an individual mailbox or the full exchange server. |
Across all six sites they have just under 2 terabytes of data: databases, flat file data and full system recovery provided for their domain controllers and exchange servers.
This critical function was outsourced to DataFort enabling full data recovery should the worst happen. |
The outcome
The company signed a 24 month contract, which is now drawing to the close of year one. So far they’ve used DataFort for numerous small recoveries from the appliance, as well as a successful disaster recovery test at their head office in Southall. |
